Midportion Achilles Tendinopathy Surgery
When non-surgical treatments fail to relieve midportion Achilles tendinopathy, surgery may be recommended. The goal of the surgery is to remove degenerated or damaged tendon tissue, stimulate healing, and, in some cases, repair the remaining healthy tendon. During the procedure, the surgeon may also make small cuts in the tendon (tenotomy) to release pressure and promote better blood flow to aid healing. In more severe cases, a tendon transfer or augmentation may be used to reinforce the Achilles tendon. Post-surgery, patients typically require physical therapy to regain strength and flexibility in the tendon.
